Ramos was high on cocaine when she jumped from the fifth-floor window of an apartment building. That attempt came after she previously overdosed on medication.

The fall left her confined to a wheelchair and suffering severe, chronic pain with no possibility of improvement, according to her medical reports.

What she has to say

Ramos said she was raped on two separate occasions — once by her ex-boyfriend and the second time by three boys in 2022 at a state-supervised facility for vulnerable youth, which she referred to as the turning point in her life.

“I want to go now and stop suffering, period,” Ramos said in an interview with Spanish program Y Ahora Sonsoles.

“None of my family is in favour of euthanasia. But what about all the pain I’ve suffered during all these years?” she asked. “The happiness of a father, a mother, or a sister cannot be more important than the life of a daughter.”

While her mother said she will be her side “until the very end,” Noelia’s wants to be alone in her bedroom at the care facility.

“I’ve told them how I want it to be. I want to die looking beautiful. I’ve always thought I want to die looking good. I’ll wear my prettiest dress and put on makeup —  it will be something simple,” she said.

Years-long legal battle

Castillo was approved for assisted suicide in 2024, but her father has fought the decision, with the support of conservative religious Spanish group Abogados Cristianos (Christian Lawyers).

They argued that her mental health was blocking her ability to make a sound decision as important as life or death.

“My father saw me fall and couldn’t do anything,” she told Y Ahora Sonsoles. “But after everything he’s done, I don’t feel sorry for him anymore. He hasn’t respected my decision and he never will.”

The courts rejected her father’s challenged, determining that Noelia “has full capacity to decide.”

His last-ditch appeal made to the European Court of Human Rights this week was also shut down, El Pais reported.

“I’ve finally done it,” Castillo said. “Let’s see if I can finally rest.”
