An 82-year-old was killed in a head-on collision in Yarmouth County on Friday afternoon and a man has been arrested for impaired driving related to the incident.
According to a media release, Yarmouth Rural RCMP and other emergency responders were called to a report of a two-vehicle collision in South Ohio on Hardscratch Road on Friday at 1:45 p.m.
Police say a GMC Sierra was travelling north on Hardscratch Rd. and collided with a Ford Ranger travelling south, prompting the Ford to veer off the roadway and crash into a ditch.
The lone occupant of the Ford Ranger, an 82-year-old man from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to RCMP, officers observed the lone occupant of the GMC Sierra, 43-year-old man from Yarmouth, exhibiting signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance causing death.
A blood demand was made and a sample was provided after the 43-year-old was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Highway 340 was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
