Will there be a Boyfriend on Demand season 2? Renewal possibilities and ending explained

On March 6, Netflix released episodes 1 to 10 of Boyfriend on Demand. The story centers on Seo Mi-rae (BLACKPINK’s Jisoo). She is a worn-out webtoon producer whose packed workload leaves little space for romance in everyday life. By chance, she receives a device called Boyfriend on Demand. It is a subscription-based virtual dating system that lets users step inside a simulated world. Once Mi-rae enters this digital environment, she begins meeting ideal partners who appear almost flawless.

Through these interactions, her long-ignored feelings for romance slowly return. Meanwhile, in reality, Mi-rae frequently encounters Park Kyeong-nam (Seo In-guk), her coworker and also a competing webtoon producer. Mi-rae feels like avoiding him whenever possible. His distant attitude makes him appear cold at first glance. Yet beneath that quiet exterior lie unexpected secrets. Over time, those hidden sides begin influencing Mi-rae’s feelings. Soon, their complicated connection slowly starts to change.

Boyfriend on Demand was produced as a limited show. So, the storyline was intended to conclude within a single release. All episodes dropped together instead of being divided across several seasons. This lets viewers experience the full plot without waiting for future parts. By the finale, Mi-rae closes her chapter with the virtual dating platform and says goodbye to Gu Yeong-il inside the simulation.

At the same time, her relationship with Kyeong-nam settles stable place in the real world. Their story reaches a satisfying ending, showing that Mi-rae chooses reality over the artificial romance created by the app. Since the central conflict resolves and the main couple receives a happy ending, the series does not leave space for another Boyfriend on Demand season.

Boyfriend on Demand episodes 1 to 10 recap

Boyfriend on Demand opens with Seo Mi-rae, a webtoon editor drowning in assignments and deadlines, leaving almost zero space for romance. Two years earlier, she had dated Kim Se-june, yet that relationship ended because work pressure kept piling up while she managed writer Yun Song’s projects. Meanwhile, a company called DU launches a fresh dating simulation service.

Yun’s webtoon hero Choi Si-woo becomes the main male figure in this virtual reality program titled Boyfriend on Demand. The platform’s developer approaches Mi-rae and requests that she try the application for one month and share an honest review, promising payment in return. Curious, she installs the system at home and enters the digital world. Inside, she meets a dating manager who hands her a special ring that works as the login key.

When she removes it, the session ends instantly. Soon, the manager transports her to the setting called The Man You Think You Know. There, near the seaside, Mi-rae encounters Choi Si-woo, who watches her with inquisitiveness. Embarrassed by the sudden interaction, she quickly logs out. Yet afterward, she keeps imagining Choi everywhere around her. Eventually, curiosity wins, and she returns to the simulation, this time entering as the heroine Eun Na-ra.

The story begins following the original webtoon plot. Choi Si-woo appears cold and distant as the stern general manager of SY Group. However, his attitude softens because Eun Na-ra once rescued him at the shore, and he remembers searching for the mysterious woman for days. Their virtual romance slowly grows. When Mi-rae exits the system, she suggests story ideas to Yun based on her experiences, and Yun’s webtoon suddenly climbs to the top of the charts.

Meanwhile, Mi-rae continues enjoying dates with Choi inside the platform. During one romantic moment, he almost kisses her, yet suddenly stops when a notification warns that a user cannot date the same character beyond 50 hours. Later, Mi-rae submits her official review. Still, she grows attached to the character and asks her guide if she can meet him again. The guide declines and advises her to explore other male leads instead.

On another Boyfriend on Demand date, she meets architecture student Seo Eun-ho. Unlike Choi, he does not fall for her easily, which makes their interactions more complicated. Gradually, Mi-rae becomes strangely invested as she tries to win him over. Just when their relationship begins to warm, and a kiss seems close, another alert appears saying her one-month free trial has expired. After logging out, she briefly spots Eun-ho standing nearby before realizing it is only a poster.

Once home, she checks the paid subscription plans, which include basic, premium, and royal levels. The basic option costs five hundred thousand won, so she initially shuts the page. However, curiosity returns, and she finally subscribes. With the paid access, Mi-rae receives her own virtual home and even a special room displaying gifts collected from different dates. Through new storylines, she meets various characters, including NIS agent Bae Hyeon-woo. In another scenario, she becomes a hospital intern meeting a doctor.

Later, she participates in a dating game inspired by Single’s Inferno, where contestants compete for her attention. Other experiences place her as a prosecutor in a legal setting, a celebrity guarded by a loyal bodyguard, and even a scene with Jay Park. Despite enjoying these varied simulations, she eventually meets Eun-ho again. Soon, something unusual happens in real life when Mi-rae receives a phone call from him. Shocked, she checks the platform guidelines and discovers that paid subscribers can call or message the male characters even outside the virtual world.

From then on, she starts talking regularly with Eun-ho. Around this time, Mi-rae attends an office workshop with colleague Kyeong-nam. Their interactions there turn chaotic yet unexpectedly fun. The following day, he drops her home and suddenly confesses his feelings. Mi-rae refuses, claiming she already has a boyfriend. Soon afterward, reality hits her when she realizes Eun-ho behaves the same way with many users rather than being devoted only to her.

The platform later introduces a feature allowing users to design a personalized partner. The custom character named Gu Yeong-il is created based on Mi-rae’s survey answers. Surprisingly, the personality and face end up resembling Kyeong-nam. Meanwhile, she keeps spending time with Kyeong-nam in real life, and their bond slowly grows stronger. Eventually, both attend an award ceremony celebrating their respective writers. From that point, their dynamic shifts noticeably.

After learning Mi-rae lied about having a boyfriend, Kyeong-nam begins openly trying to win her heart. During Christmas week, they work late together at the office. He stays with her through the night while she finishes tasks. At first, Mi-rae resists his affection. Still on a quiet winter evening, he confesses again. This time, she accepts his feelings, and they share their first kiss, officially beginning their relationship.

However, tension soon appears when Kyeong-nam discovers Mi-rae’s earlier review about Boyfriend on Demand and later meets Gu Yeong-il. The situation unsettles him deeply. After some distance and awkward silence, they finally talk honestly and reconcile once Mi-rae assures him of her feelings. Near the finale, Kyeong-nam gets injured after Mi-rae accidentally pushes him while trying to hide their relationship from coworkers. Overwhelmed with guilt, she admits that fear drove her actions because she worried about what might happen if their secret became public.

She also confesses that she returned to the Boyfriend on Demand app again to meet Gu Yeong-il. She wanted to understand his conversation with Yeong-il and also feared losing him. For a moment, he hated the idea that Yeong-il might be a better version of himself. His first impulse was to grab the virtual rival and demand every detail about Mi-rae. Eventually, that jealousy fades because he knows she chose him in the real world. In the closing Boyfriend on Demand moments, Mi-rae returns to the platform one final time. She says goodbye to Gu Yeong-il and peacefully ends her connection with the digital romance.
