Veteran Thai fighter Sam-A Gaiyanghadao further underscored that he could still compete at a high level even at this late stage of his career with a technical knockout victory last week in Thailand.

The 42-year-old martial arts icon stopped Moroccan fighter Elmehdi El Jamari in the second round of their co-headlining strawweight Muay Thai showdown at ONE Fight Night 42: Mann vs. Dzhabrailov at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on April 10.

Sam-A stepped up big in the second frame and showcased the stuff that made him the legend that he is in Muay Thai. He caught his 28-year-old opponent with a hard-hitting left hand to send El Jamari to the canvas. The latter was able to stand up and beat the eight-count, but found himself back on the mat seconds later after absorbing a solid straight.

But El Jamari managed to dig deep and regain his footing, even scoring a knockdown of his own with a left hook.

Sam-A gathered himself after the direct hit he caught and continued to mix it up with El Jamari, finishing things with a well-timed left leg lick to the head that immediately sent the Moroccan star to the canvas for the third time and gave the Thai veteran the automatic TKO win.

The spectacular second-round TKO win of Sam-A at ONE Fight Night 42 earned him a $50,000 performance bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

He is one of the fighters rewarded with the hefty performance incentive, given to athletes who produce top-notch performances and victories on fight night. He was joined by Japanese MMA star Hiroba Minowa, who defeated Armenian Karen Ghazaryan by submission (rear-naked choke) in the opening round of their strawweight MMA clash.

Sam-A’s latest win was his third straight and further propelled his push for another shot at the ONE strawweight Muay Thai world title he used to hold.
