WATCH: Dean Burmester switches to soccer jersey mid-play at LIV Golf South Africa

Dean Burmester is having a good time playing on his home soil. The South African golfer kick-started his campaign this week at the LIV Golf event, which started with its first round on Thursday, March 19.

During the second round of the event, held on Friday, while taking a shot on the 17th hole, Burmester switched to a soccer jersey mid-play on the green. Liv’r & Onions shared a video of the golfer on its X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:

“Dean Burmester nearly sends the Lion’s Den into a frenzy. Sporting the South Africa kit, he throws a dart at the flag, and knew it as soon as he hit it!”

Dean Burmester started the second round of the LIV Golf South Africa event on the eighth hole. He made a birdie on the tenth, then added another birdie on the 14th. He also made birdies on the 17th and 18th, but has yet to complete the round. He has had a decent start to this week’s event.

Dean Burmester opens up about playing on home soil

Dean Burmester teed off at the LIV Golf South Africa event on Thursday. He had three birdies on the front nine, and two birdies and a bogey on the back nine for a round of 4-under 67. He reflected on playing on his home soil in the post-round press conference on Thursday.

“It’s probably the pinnacle of my career, honestly,” Burmester said. This is probably the greatest day I’ve had on the golf course, the most fun, the most backing I’ve ever had. I’ve played all over the world and I’ve never felt this kind of emotion and this electricity. Obviously they’re backing the Southern Guards boys, and all four of us I’m sure were getting shouted for all over the golf course. That lifted us up.

“We were at the top of the leaderboard, and it was a special day. I walked on to that first tee after the 18th shaking like a poisoned dog and shed a tear, really. Yes, it was emotional. It was amazing. That’s about all I can say about it,” he added.

Before this event, Dean Burmester played in the LIV Golf Singapore event and recorded a notable finish. He started with an opening round of 72 and then added rounds of 70, 67, and 68 to settle in a T10 place.

He also had a solo seventh finish in Hong Kong and tied for sixth in Adelaide. In the season-opening event held in Riyadh, however, he had a tough time on the field and played four rounds of 69, 74, 74, and 66 to settle in a tie for 51st place.

Dean Burmester also played in the DP World Tour event held in South Africa last month. He teed off at the Investec SA Open Championship, held from February 26 to March 1. He carded four rounds of 65, 67, 72, and 71 and settled in T20 place.
