Apple Original Films has officially announced Liminal, a new sci-fi action thriller starring Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, marking their first on-screen collaboration. Revealed on March 26, 2026, the project is part of Apple’s growing slate of high-concept, big-budget genre films.
The film will be directed by Louis Leterrier, known for large-scale action films like Fast X, and is based on the acclaimed graphic novel Telepaths by J. Michael Straczynski and collaborators.
The story is expected to explore a world shaken by a sudden electromagnetic event that gives a portion of the population telepathic abilities, leading to conflict, fear, and shifting power dynamics.

Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are both emerging as one of the major names in the industry. Kirby earned recognition with her breakout role as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s historical biographical drama series The Crown, a performance that earned her a BAFTA. More recently she appeared in Ron Howard’s survival thriller Eden and the crime drama Night Always Comes, which she also produced.
She also recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sue Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Starring opposite Kirby in Liminal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II had his own major start in the Netflix musical series The Get Down. More recently, he appeared as the lead in Marvel’s Wonder Man and is preparing for the April 30 premiere of his Man on Fire series on Netflix.
