“Syracuse setting its sights on Kim Mulkey”: College hoops fans react to Bryan Hodgson turning down head coaching job at Orange

Bryan Hodgson is staying on as USF’s men’s basketball coach, at least for now. The highly rated coach has turned down the chance to take over as Syracuse’s coach after the firing of Adrian Autry.

According to Jeff Goodman, Hodgson was Syracuse’s top choice to replace Autry, but the USF coach has withdrawn his name from consideration. College basketball fans took to X to react to the news.

A fan said, “Syracuse setting its sights on Kim Mulkey but are concerned they cannot meet her wardrobe demands.”

Another added, “There is literally zero reason for anyone to want to come to Syracuse unless it’s for lacrosse or football at this point.”

One wrote, “HAHAHAHAHAHA CUSE FANS 😭😂😂 we told you it’s not a better job.”

Some fans were less pessimistic.

One said, “USF is the clear top dog in the American conference.”

Another added, “Pay the man. Lock him in. Whatever it costs.”

One chipped in, saying, “GMac👀”

The Syracuse Orange used to be one of the top-tier programs in men’s college basketball. The Orange won a national championship in 2003 and made a handful of Final Four appearances over the years.

However, Adrian Autry’s tenure was marked by inconsistency, and Syracuse is now searching for its first March Madness run since 2021. The Orange must now look elsewhere following Bryan Hodgson’s rejection.
