“Put Tiger Woods behind bars” – Dave Protnoy gets honest about the 15x Major winner’s rollover crash in Florida
Tiger Woods’ crash in Florida has sparked strong reactions, and Dave Portnoy has added his name to that list with some blunt comments. The Barstool Sports founder did not hold back while reacting to the incident.
Woods was involved in a rollover crash on March 27 and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was not injured, and neither was the other driver involved. However he was held in custody for about eight hours before being released on bail.
Thanks for the submission!
Speaking on his Wake Up Barstool podcast, Portnoy questioned Woods’ decision to keep driving despite his past.
“What is wrong with Tiger Woods?” Portnoy said.
He questioned why Woods is still driving and said there is no excuse for not having a driver.
“You can have somebody drive you. He should have a driver with him wherever he goes, there is no excuse,” he said.
“When you get behind the wheel impaired, you’re not just putting yourself at risk. You’re putting anybody else on the road and innocent people [at risk]. You can’t make light of it and I have no sympathy for the guy.”
Portnoy also pointed to Woods’ past incidents and said cases like this cannot be taken lightly.
“I don’t know anybody who has ever rolled a car over – this guy rolls it over every two weeks! So, you know what? Put him behind bars, put him in jail for a little bit and make him wake up,” he added.
Authorities said Woods was driving at a high speed before the crash and tried to pass a pickup truck pulling a trailer on a narrow road. His vehicle clipped the trailer and rolled over. His breath test showed no alcohol, but officials believe impairment could be linked to medication or other substances.
This is not the first time Tiger Woods has been in a situation like this. In 2017 he was found asleep in his car with the engine running. He later said it was due to a mix of prescription drugs and pleaded guilty to reckless driving.
The latest incident also adds to his history of crashes. In 2009, he hit a fire hydrant and a tree outside his home. In 2021 he was involved in a serious crash near Los Angeles that left him with major leg injuries.
Skip Bayless links Tiger Woods’ injuries to driving concerns
Dave Portnoy is not the only one to react strongly to Tiger Woods’ crash. Sports commentator Skip Bayless also shared his views raising concerns about him continuing to drive.
Posting on X, Bayless pointed to Woods’ long list of injuries and surgeries. He suggested that repeated procedures often come with strong medication which can affect alertness, and said that makes driving risky. He added that Woods has no reason not to have a full-time driver.
Tiger Woods has dealt with several injuries in recent years. He has undergone multiple surgeries, including a back procedure and also ruptured his Achilles tendon in March 2025 which kept him out for the season.
Still, Woods prefers to drive himself. According to PEOPLE Magazine, citing a source close to him, the reason is privacy. The source said he does not want someone around him all the time and believes he is fine to drive.
