Nicki Minaj compares Instagram to X, accusing the Meta-owned platform of dismantling “the community while trying to increase revenue”

Nicki Minaj recently shared her thoughts about the difference between Instagram and X, accusing the Meta-owned social media platform of dismantling “the community while trying to increase revenue.” X, currently owned by Elon Musk, reportedly has over 561 million monthly active users as of July 2025. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg stated that Instagram had over 3 billion monthly active users in September 2025.

On March 13, 2026, Nicki Minaj took to X to weigh in on the widespread debate over the best social media platform. She suggested that X had the edge over Instagram because the Musk-owned platform understood the community.

The rapper said that X understood how to identify and enhance communities by allowing them to function “outside of the overall population” without “feeling alienated from said population.”

“X wins b/c they understand community. Not just identifying the communities—but enhancing the actual community itself. Enhancing the experience that allows the community to function completely outside of the overall population w/o feeling alienated from said population,” she added.

Nicki Minaj said people wanted to feel like they were not “isolated” from the world while existing in their “own” world. She added that X helped bridge the gap between the two by creating a community and keeping them informed about the world with trending topics and hit tweets.

The rapper compared this to Instagram and claimed that the Meta-owned platform operated by removing chronological posting and pushing for more influencer content to boost revenue while dismantling the community.

“Instagram did the opposite. They lose. Instagram essentially dismantled the community while trying to increase revenue. By removing chronological order of posts & focusing heavily on influencers & click bait. They basically forced you to become apart of the “overall” community that no one actually feels comfortable in,” she added.

Nicki Minaj concluded her post by suggesting that Instagram was “a game designed for them to lose.” She said people logged used the platform to find their “tribe” but were instead faced with a “digital version of a Casino” where everyone was “hustling, competing, over compensating & trying to figure out how to “win.””

Nicki Minaj deactivated her Instagram account last year

According to Billboard, Nicki Minaj deactivated her Instagram account on October 20, 2025, without any explanation. The rapper, who remains active on X, hinted at leaving instagram in her 2018 song Barbie Tingz, rapping:

“Rap b***hes tell they team, “Make ’em like Barbie”/ Had to come off IG so they can’t stalk me/ All they do is copy looks, steal music too/ Want to see what b***hes do when they lose the blue-print.”

When Nicki Minaj appeared on the Katie Miller Pod in February 2026, she confirmed she had deleted Instagram because she “wanted to,” adding that X (formerly known as Twitter) was her most used app.

Nicki Minaj recently faced backlash due to her political affiliations after surprising fans by supporting Donald Trump and his administration over the past few months. In December 2025, Minaj praised the president when she appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest with Erika Kirk, calling Trump “handsome” and “dashing.”

In January 2026, she joined Trump onstage during the Trump Accounts Summit. She dubbed herself Trump’s “number one fan” and added that the hate he got motivated her to support him more.

Meanwhile, recent data showed that Meta’s Threads has surpassed X in terms of daily active users as of October 2025. A Forbes article dated November 2025 noted that Threads had “an average of 128.2 million users per day, while Musk’s X had 124.7 million users per day” in October.
