Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand rips into pundit for calling Manchester City star Phil Foden a ‘training ground player’

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has slammed former Premier League player Gabby Agbonlahor over his comments about Manchester City star Phil Foden. He believes that the former striker was highly disrespectful to the 25-year-old.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor said that Foden has not impressed this season, slamming the Manchester City star by calling him a ‘training ground player’. He went on to state that the 25-year-old record of scoring just four goals in his 49 matches for the national team is not good enough and said:

“His fall for Manchester City has been incredibly bad. He came on in the 90th minute of the cup final against Arsenal, got zero minutes in both games against Real Madrid, and in his last 11 games, he’s only played 183 minutes of 990 available. Zero goals this year (we’re already in April), and for his country, he’s not performed. He’s only got four goals in 49 England caps. He should be in his peak now at 25. He’s never done it in an England shirt.”

Ferdinand has now quoted the post on X, reminding the pundit that he was talking about a player who has won six Premier League titles at the age of 25. The Manchester United star posted:

“Gabby, he’s won six Premier League titles at 25 years old, [and] got 10 goals and assists in the Premier League this season (same as Saka, Watkins).”

The Manchester City star played just under an hour in the last two England friendlies and is fighting for a place in the FIFA World Cup squad.

Manchester United urged to sign Manchester City target by Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand was on his podcast this week, urging Manchester United to sign Elliot Anderson this summer. He believes that the Englishman is the ideal midfielder and his former side should swoop in for the Manchester City target.

“I just think the type of midfielder United need is somebody who is a bit more all-action, who can cover ground, who is dynamic, who is robust, strong, who can drive a team. Right now Anderson seems to be ticking those boxes. But I think there are a few other young guns out there who I won’t mention their names yet because I don’t want anyone else to get on that scent.” (via Metro)

Reports suggest Manchester City are leading the chase for Anderson this summer, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United also interested.
