Taylor Swift and John Mayer’s relationship started professionally in early 2009.
Mayer (then 31) tweeted that he had a song idea and wanted Swift (then 19) to sing on it.
This led to their duet, “Half of My Heart,” featured on his album, “Battle Studies.”
They began dating toward the end of 2009. The relationship was brief, lasting only about three to four months, ending in early 2010.
Mainly, the 12-year age difference (19 vs. 31) became a focal point of their relationship.
Travis Kelce’s fiancée Taylor Swift is widely believed to have written several tracks about the relationship.
“Dear John” (2010) was the most famous of the bunch.
It includes the lyric:
“Don’t you think nineteen’s too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?”
Another one was “The Story of Us” (2010), which was inspired by an awkward encounter at the 2010 CMT Awards, where they were seated near each other but did not speak.
The third one was “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” (2022), which was released over a decade later on “Midnights.”
In this track, Swift sang:
“I damn sure never would’ve danced with the devil at nineteen.”
Comig to John Mayer, his one track stands out i.e. “Paper Doll” (2013), which was seemingly his response to “Dear John.”
It features lyrics like “You’re like 22 girls in one.”
Furthermore, in a 2012 Rolling Stone interview, Mayer said “Dear John” made him feel “humiliated” and called it “cheap songwriting.”
Taylor Swift got engaged to Travis Kelce in August.
Meanwhile, Mayer’s most recent relationship was with social media influencer and comedian Kat Stickler.
