“Kiyan Anthony should leave,” “Gerry McNamara” incoming: College Hoops fans erupt after Syracuse fires HC Adrian Autry after 3 seasons
Adrian Autry’s time with the Syracuse Orange has come to an end. According to Jon Rothstein, Syracuse is firing Autry after three seasons as coach.
College basketball fans took to X and reacted to the news.
A fan said, “I still think Kiyan should leave for St. John’s.”
Another added, “Gerry McNamara incoming.”
One wrote, “Gerry McNamara come on down.”
One added, “Gerry McNamara is going to be hired ASAP’
Another chipped in, saying, “Only name is Gerry McNamara! Really good coach and you keep Kiyan from leaving.”
One chimmed in, adding, “For not playing Kiyan when he’s clearly talented, good riddance.”
The Syracuse Orange decided that enough was enough after their 86-69 loss to SMU in the ACC tournament. It confirmed that they’ll miss out on the NCAA tournament and they acted promptly as a result.
Syracuse won just two of their last ten games this season. They’ll now be in the market for a replacement ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Adrian Autry leaves Syracuse after a 49–48 record
The Syracuse Orange hired Adrian Autry ahead of the 2023–24 season. Autry had served as the program’s associate head coach from 2016 to 2023, making him an internal hire after longtime head coach Jim Boeheim’s departure.
Autry guided the Orange to a 20–12 (11–9) record in his first year at the helm. His team was tied for the fifth-best record in the ACC.
However, Autry failed to build on the momentum from his first year as Syracuse coach. The program went 14–19 (7–13) and wasn’t in the picture for March Madness in the 2024–25 season. They finished 14th in the conference.
The last straw occurred this season as Syracuse finished with a 15–17 (6–12) record. Another 14th-place finish in the conference was the last straw, with the program showing Autry the door.
It marks the end of an almost two-decade-long relationship between Adrian Autry and the program. Syracuse is now in the market for a replacement.
