“Kirk Cousins robbed the NFL again”: Cam Newton fires shots at Raiders QB over $172,000,000, 5-year deal

The Las Vegas Raiders signed former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins on a reported $172 million contract over five years. The veteran quarterback will make $20 million guaranteed in 2026.

The Raiders signed Cousins amid links with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to be selected by Las Vegas with the No. 1 pick in this year’s NFL draft.

If the Raiders select Mendoza, Cousins could play the role of a mentor for the young Indiana Hoosiers quarterback and ease him into the NFL. However, former NFL MVP Cam Newton questioned Cousins’ credentials on his 4th & 1 podcast.

“Kirk Cousins just robbed the NFL AGAIN!!” the X post from the podcast was captioned.

While Cousins’ contract is effectively a one-year, $20 million deal, it has made him the third-highest-earning player in NFL history. He surpassed NFL icon Tom Brady with $341,469,288 career earnings and is only behind fellow quarterbacks Matthew Stafford ($408,000,000) and Aaron Rodgers ($395,812,794).

Newton called out Cousins’ earnings, comparing his accomplishments to fellow top earners like Stafford, Rodgers and Brady.

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton calls out Kirk Cousins’ lack of help for Michael Penix Jr. in Atlanta

Apart from shading his career earnings, Cam Newton also called out Kirk Cousins over the Falcons’ quarterback room issues last season.

“Let’s talk about Kirk Cousins’ performance,” Newton said. “You mean to tell me, Coach (Klint) Kubiak, you wanted to have a bridge quarterback that can help a young player? Last year, Michael Tarrence Penix Jr. had this to say. ‘I get no support.’ They were teammates. The handwriting was on the wall.”

Cousins’ Raiders contract has a club option for two years at $80 million after the 2026 season and the deal could reach $172 million over five years, including incentives.
