Iga Swiatek refuses to reveal the truth of what Rafael Nadal really did for her after explosive coach rumors
Iga Swiatek recently refused to reveal the truth of what Rafael Nadal really did for her amidst some explosive coaching rumours. While many fans have speculated that the Pole might be headed to Mallorca after her split with Wim Fissette, the former World No.1 declined to comment on Nadal’s role in her professional life.
Swiatek has been experiencing a lukewarm start to her 2026 season. The 24-year-old failed to make it past the quarterfinals in her first handful of competitive outings, going down against Elina Svitolina at the Australian Open and BNP Paribas Open, while losing to Maria Sakkari at the Qatar Open. Most recently, she made an opening round exit at the Miami Open, post which she parted ways with coach Wim Fissette.
Thanks for the submission!
Recently, Sport.PL asked Iga Swiatek if Rafael Nadal had played a role in helping her choose her new coach, but the Pole refused to comment on the matter, saying,
“Rafa is very open. He’s a great guy. Just having his number and being able to contact him is a huge honor. But honestly, whether he helped me [with choosing a coach – rl] or not, I’d like to keep it between us, because he’s part of this story. I wouldn’t want to put him in an awkward position.”
Swiatek and Nadal share a close bond on and off the tennis court. The six-time Grand Slam champion has been vocal about her admiration for the Spanish tennis legend and has admitted to reaching out to him for advice throughout her career.
Iga Swiatek opens up about her split with Wim Fissette

Iga Swiatek and Wim Fissette began working in 2024. The duo experienced a fair amount of success together, with the highlight of their partnership being their 2025 Wimbledon triumph. Recently, in her interview with Sports.PL, Swiatek spoke about her split with Fissette and highlighted that it wasn’t a decision based off of a singular loss, saying,
“I felt it was simply time for a change. It wasn’t a decision made in Miami—it was a longer process during which I carefully considered everything.”
“I felt like I wasn’t playing as well, and that’s why I started losing confidence. After my loss to Maria Sakkari, we sat down and had a long talk. We discussed what to change and how to approach the following week so I could get back to my solid game. And indeed, we made some progress before Indian Wells. But when I considered the whole picture, I decided I needed a change,” she went on to add.
Iga Swiatek will now turn her focus to the clay season, which has typically been her strongest surface. The Pole is next scheduled to compete at the Stuttgart Open that takes place between April 13 and 19.
