“I would do it again”: Azzi Fudd gets real on returning to UConn after winning national championship
Shooting guard Azzi Fudd had the option of declaring for the 2025 WNBA draft. However, she decided to return to play for her final year of eligibility for the UConn Huskies under coach Geno Auriemma.
During an interview on Saturday, Fudd shared her thoughts on returning for her final year of collegiate eligibility. She said that she had no regrets about coming back to play for the Huskies on the court.
“Oh 100% worth it,” Fudd said. “I definitely made the right decision. This year has been, honestly, the most fun I’ve had, like from a, I don’t know if holistic is the right word, but just like from every perspective, point of view, area of my life. I’ve grown a lot. I’ve had so much fun. I would do it again.”
Azzi Fudd was a former five-star recruit coming out of high school. She committed to playing for the UConn Huskies in November 2020 and joined them as a freshman during the 2021-22 season.
However, the shooting guard received a medical redshirt after an ACL injury during the 2023-24 season, giving her an extra year of eligibility.
So far in five seasons, Azzi Fudd has averaged 14.6 points, 2.3 total rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks per game. Last season, she went on to win the national championship with the Huskies, averaging 13.6 points, 2.0 total rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She was also honored as the Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA tournament and made the First-Team All-Big East.
Azzi Fudd shares her thoughts on her upcoming Senior Day showdown against Providence
Azzi Fudd will be playing her senior day game when UConn takes on Providence on Sunday.
During a press conference before the showdown, she came forward to share her honest thoughts on her final season with the Huskies.
“It feels good,” Fudd said. “Carolina and I were talking about it, and know that it’s the last one, there’s no more after this. But I feel like being on the other side of this is less sad.
“We were talking about all the other years, oh my gosh, this person is leaving, this person’s leaving, I am so upset. But now it’s like we still have so much season left. This is exciting, what we have done here has been so much fun so it feels a little different.”
