“Hiding from the ball”, “Bony offered more” – Fans slam Manchester City star for his ‘generational stinker’ against West Ham in 1-1 draw
Manchester City fans have hit out at star striker Erling Haaland after his disappointing showing in their 1-1 draw against West Ham. The Cityzens failed to win for a second successive league game, effectively putting paid to their title ambitions this season.
Pep Guardiola watched from the stands after he picked up a ban in his last domestic outing with Manchester City. The Spaniard made three changes to the XI that lost to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, but kept Haaland to lead the line.
Thanks for the submission!
Erling Haaland extended his goal drought to four games, following up a listless showing at the Bernabeu with another at the London Stadium. The Norway international did not escape the wrath of the Manchester City fans, many of whom took to X to call him out.
A fan pointed out that the striker has been out of sorts for over a month.
Another fan compared the 2026 version of the striker to former striker Wilfried Bony, ultimately revealing that they value the Ivorian more.
A fan accused the former Borussia Dortmund man of hiding from the ball.
Another fan compared the 25-year-old to struggling Chelsea striker Liam Delap, stating that City are not a good side.
A fan disappointedly conceded the title race, referring to Haaland as a ‘disgrace’ over his showing.
Erling Haaland touched the ball only 14 times in his 90 minutes on the pitch for Manchester City, attempting two shots, neither of which was on target. He missed two big chances and won two of five duels against West Ham players in another sub-par showing from him.
Manchester City drop points as Arsenal open up nine-point lead
Manchester City failed to win for a second successive league game after a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened West Ham at the London Stadium. The Cityzens now sit nine points behind rivals and league leaders Arsenal in the pursuit of the 2025-26 Premier League title.
Following a 2-0 win for Arsenal earlier on Saturday, Pep Guardiola’s side needed a response to keep their title hopes alive. They took the lead in the 31st minute, as a cross-shot from Bernardo Silva beat Mads Hermansen and hit the back of the net.
West Ham responded almost immediately, with Konstantinos Mavropanos taking advantage of a moment of indiscretion from Gianluigi Donnarumma to head home three minutes later. Neither side managed to find a winner despite the Cityzens attempting 24 shots and generating 2.12 xG compared to 0.54 from the Hammers
