The upcoming action thriller In the Grey has unveiled its first official images, offering fans an early look at stars Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film.

The film’s trailer is expected to be released on March 9. The first image features Sophia, played by Eiza González, standing in the foreground as she speaks on the phone, while Cavill’s John Grey and Gyllenhaal’s Michael Harris appear in the background.

In the Grey is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2026. Starring Cavill, Gyllenhaal and González, the film also features Rosamund Pike and Jason Wong, among others.

First look at Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey

According to the official synopsis, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey centers on two extraction specialists, John Grey and Michael Harris, who are assigned a dangerous mission to rescue a high-level negotiator named Sophia.

Their task is to plan and execute a complex escape while navigating a world that operates between criminal networks and official authorities. As the mission unfolds, the team must rely on strategy, influence, and firepower to survive in an environment where loyalties are unclear and every decision carries serious consequences.

Written and directed by Ritchie, the film features Cavill as John Grey and Gyllenhaal as Michael Harris, with González playing Sophia. The supporting cast includes Fisher Stevens, Jason Wong, Emmett J. Scanlan, and Carlos Bardem. Many of the actors have previously worked with Ritchie.

Cavill previously starred in Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, while Gyllenhaal appeared in the 2023 film The Covenant.

Development on In the Grey began in May 2023 when Ritchie announced he would write and direct a new action film, with Black Bear International presenting the project at the Cannes Film Market. Soon after, Cavill, Gyllenhaal, and González were confirmed as the lead actors. Additional cast members were revealed later in October 2023.

Principal photography started in September 2023 in Tenerife, Spain’s Canary Islands. Several scenes were filmed at notable locations, including the Real Casino de Tenerife in Plaza de la Candelaria, the fishing dock in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the beach area of Las Teresitas.

Filming also included high-speed chase scenes through the nearby village of San Andrés. The production wrapped in late October 2023 after a two-month shoot that operated under an interim agreement during the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The movie faced several delays during post-production. It was originally scheduled for a January 2025 release under Lionsgate, but the studio later removed it from its release calendar due to unfinished post-production work. Eventually, Black Bear Pictures took over distribution and prepared the film for a new theatrical rollout.

In the Grey is now scheduled to release in theaters on May 15, 2026.
