“This dude can play” “Garbage”: Fans split as Drew Allar shows off deep ball throwing skills at 2026 NFL Combine

Drew Allar finally had a chance to showcase his passing skills at the Combine on Saturday. However, not everyone was happy with what he put out before scouts.

During the passing drill, the Penn State quarterback heaved this 55-yard bomb to a moving receiver. The impressive thing about it was that he did so 3-4 months after undergoing surgery on his ankle, which ended his college career:

Fans, however, were divided on it:

@NFL @PennStateFball @nflnetwork @NFLPlus Im sorry. They keep mentioning his name but watching him play was like what’s the big deal. Inaccurate and never kept the team in the game when HE needed to make plays. To me he gets waaaaaaaay too much love

Allar met with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, and he explained what went down during that “toughest meeting” when speaking with CBS’s Aditi Kinkhabwala the next day:

“We weren’t necessarily up on the board when we did it. I was explaining a lot about of our protections and a couple concepts (head coach Mike McCarthy) was asking me about, so it was really fun though, like, those are the conversations I love. … I hope I passed. I feel good in what I was saying.”

Drew Allar expounds on being a fan of Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield

There was at least one other team that Drew Allar met with during Combine week: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The former NFC South champions face the risk of losing Baker Mayfield after the 2026 season and need to future-proof their quarterback situation. Quite luckily for them, Allar has been a fan of the two-time Pro Bowler ever since his high school days.

In an interview with Pewter Report’s Adam Slivon on Friday, the former Nittany Lion said:

“I actually got to watch Tampa Bay’s offense when I was hurt, and that was really cool to see how they use him … the way he leads the team, the way I can see everybody cares about him and wants to go out and play for him isn’t something lost on me. That’s the kind of leader every quarterback wants to be.”

The Buccaneers hold the 15th overall pick in the draft, which will be held from April 23 to 25 in Pittsburgh.
