Chris Jericho drops a huge WWE reference amid uncertain AEW future

Chris Jericho’s wrestling future is one of the most talked-about topics in wrestling. Amidst his AEW absence, he has suddenly referenced a moment from his time in WWE years ago.

Jericho departed from the Stamford-based promotion in 2018, and this would bring him to a brief run with NJPW before signing with All Elite Wrestling. It was noted in 2025 that his contract was finally set to come to an end, with no indication of him re-signing. Amidst this developing situation, he has also been linked to a return to WWE, none of which has materialized.

Chris Jericho has been active on social media, but has not directly addressed his current situation. Earlier today, he reposted a fan’s post, which showed a promo battle he had with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper on RAW back in 2009. He may have posted this at it has now been 16 years since that encounter between them.

AEW has yet to officially comment on Chris Jericho’s status

A few days ago, it was reported that The Nueve’s AEW contract had been frozen by the promotion. It was previously mentioned how this was supposed to expire by the end of 2025, but it seems like this has been frozen since he began his hiatus.

Fightful Select has given an update on the situation. The Tony Khan-led promotion has yet to officially comment on Jericho’s current status with the company. Despite reports surfacing, all this can be taken with a grain of salt, given that there is no official statement from the promotion.

To add to this, there has been no mention of Chris Jericho in any manner on TV since his absence. There were instances during the early days of his hiatus where he was referenced to connect these to storylines. But in 2026, there has been no mention of him whatsoever.
