Can Jon Rahm play in the DP World Tour 2026? Appeal withdrawal situation explored
Jon Rahm has withdrawn the appeal against the DP World Tour after eighteen months since filing. He still hasn’t agreed to pay the pending dues, which has put his membership on the European circuit in real danger.
Jon Rahm is a two-time major champion and one of the best golfers in Europe as well as the world. The star golfer has been a special force for the team in the Ryder Cup, but his eligibility in the upcoming edition is now under serious threat.
Thanks for the submission!
Following Rahm’s departure to LIV Golf, the DP World Tour took strict action and levied huge fines on the players. Rahm and other players filed an appeal against the Tour’s decision in 2024, which helped them retain their membership.
However, last month, eight players agreed to the DP World Tour’s terms and decided to pay the unpaid fines. As per the agreement, they will have to play at least six non-major DP World Tour events per year to retain their membership.
Meanwhile, Rahm remained adamant in his stance and didn’t agree to the European circuit’s terms and also accused them of extorting money from the players.
“I don’t know what game they’re trying to play right now,” he said earlier this month, “but it just seems like in a way they’re using our impact in tournaments and fining us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer. It’s just, in a way they’re extorting players like myself and young players that have nothing to do with the politics of the game.”
However, on Friday, March 20, Rahm agreed to withdraw his appeal but he is still not ready to pay the reported fine of nearly $3 million. The ace golfer is set to lose his membership and might not play at the 2027 Ryder Cup if he keeps his stance. For the uninitiated, he has been part of all four Ryder Cups since 2018 and has helped the team win three of them.
Is Jon Rahm competing on the DP World Tour this week?
Jon Rahm is not competing on the DP World Tour this week but is in action at LIV Golf South Africa. The star golfer carded a 7-under 64 in the third round of the event to aggregate at 18-under.
Following the 54-hole action at LIV Golf South Africa, Rahm is tied for third and is three strokes behind Bryson DeChambeau, who also shot 64 to retain a two-shot lead.
As for Jon Rahm, he hasn’t competed in any European Tour event since the Open de Espana in October. Last year, he played three events and had done the same in 2024 as well. However, this is his fifth LIV start in 2025 and he is currently leading the season standings.
