“Absolutely insane the guy they refused to add in a Kyle Tucker deal with Houston is now in AAA.”
“Rookie of the year back to the minors, insane work.”
“Makes no sense. I trust him more than Will Warren.”
“Trade him, that kid doesn’t belong in the minor leagues.”
“IMO he and Warren tend to struggle as soon as they start getting hit. However, at least Gil was consistent on away games.”
With Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon set to rejoin the team later in the season, the Yankees’ rotation will feature Max Fried, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren and Ryan Weathers.
Aaron Boone reveals Luis Gil’s reaction to being optioned to Triple-A before Opening Day
Luis Gil struggled with injury issues last season, throwing just 57 innings for the Yankees. Aaron Boone revealed that the former Rookie of the Year was upset about the decision.
“I think he was a little upset about it, but I feel like he’s in a good frame of mind right now,” Boone said. “It’s a guy in the physical prime of his career, and like the measurable numbers, like the physical evaluations that strength and conditioning does, he’s in the best physical place he’s ever been in his life.
“He’s as strong as he’s ever been, and we feel like that’s going to translate, hopefully, based on what we saw in his last outing.”
Gil will have a pitching session in Florida this week before moving to Triple-A. He is expected to be the fifth starter in the Yankees rotation.
