2x SB champ gets brutally honest on Steelers’ success odds with Aaron Rodgers in 2026 NFL season

Aaron Rodgers’ future in the NFL has been a major talking point heading into the offseason. The veteran quarterback is set to become a free agent after playing the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Since the Steelers hired Mike McCarthy as their coach in January, some have claimed that it could bring Rodgers, 42, back to Pittsburgh for another season. However, former NFL guard Damien Woody, who won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, has raised concerns about the Steelers achieving success with Rodgers.

“I don’t think it would be a mistake, I just don’t know the type of effect that Aaron Rodgers would have as far as winning,” Woody said on ESPN’s “First Take” on Wednesday. “Remember, Steelers owner Art Rooney II said that they don’t rebuild. The expectation is for us to contend and compete every year. So, if that’s going to be the case, then, with the limited options that are out there for a veteran free agent quarterback, Aaron Rodgers might be your best option right now.

“If the Pittsburgh Steelers want to contend, who else are they gonna turn to besides Aaron Rodgers right now. So, I think of all the available options, this would probably be the best one for them.”

Rodgers led the Steelers to the AFC North title last season. However, Pittsburgh suffered a crushing 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round.

Rodgers won the Super Bowl when McCarthy was coaching the Green Bay Packers in 2011.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Aaron Rodgers could make a decision on his NFL future by mid-March. If Rodgers opts against returning to the league for the 2026 season, it would mark the end of a remarkable career.

Rodgers was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2005. He played 18 years in Green Bay, where he won four MVP awards. The signal-caller also spent two years with the New York Jets before playing one season with the Steelers.
