New Minecraft snapshot brings bad news for sulfur cube fans
Mojang has finally added sulfur cube and other Chaos Cubed game drop features to a new Minecraft snapshot for the 26.2 version. This first snapshot itself brings all the new game drop features that Mojang introduced in their first live event of 2026. The new features were first added to Bedrock Edition beta and preview edition, after which many enthusiasts started testing what could be done with sulfur cubes.
Since sulfur cube has now arrived in Java Edition, fans will be able to pick its features apart even more. However, the new Minecraft snapshot has some bad news for those who wanted to do more experiments with the creature. Here are more details about it.
Sulfur cube’s fun properties do not carry over to latest Minecraft snapshot
When the sulfur cube arrived in Minecraft Bedrock 26.20.23/24 beta and preview, players started testing the mob with all kinds of blocks. It was discovered that TNT and other fun blocks cannot be placed in it, but some of its properties were extremely fun to experiment with.
Three major sulfur cube experiments that worked on Bedrock Edition went viral on various social media platforms:
- If the mob eats a slime or honey block, it can stick to the bottom of any block, allowing a player to hang boats or entities using a lead.
- If the mob eats a wood block and is hit with a spear while the player is sitting on a pig with a saddle that is in a boat, the mob will pull the boat with a leash.
- If the mob eats a wool block and leashed, a player can spam wind burst enchanted mace on top of the mob. It will keep moving upward along with the player.
All three of these methods worked in both Bedrock creative and survival modes. However, when the new mob was added in the latest Minecraft snapshot, none of the aforementioned experiments worked.
Popular YouTuber Phoenix SC tested out all three unique experiments on both Bedrock and Java, concluding that neither of them works on the latter edition. In his video linked above, he explained that the reason why the experiments are not working on Java could be because of different leash mechanics in both editions.
Ever since the sulfur cube and its special ability was introduced, many players were excited to test it. The community was quite ecstatic to conduct these bizarre experiments, creating new ways to use the mob. Hence, the changes in Java Edition could be disappointing for many.
As of now, no one knows whether Bedrock Edition’s mechanics of the new mob are what Mojang intended or if the Java Edition mechanics are the correct ones. If the mechanics in the new Minecraft snapshot are what the developers intended, the three experiments will be considered bugs and will soon be fixed.
