My Happy Therapy Cat Visit

My Happy Therapy Cat Visit
I had such a nice therapy cat visit at the big hospital! It started at the Cancer Center, where a young man was having an infusion. He wanted to see me, so I settled in on the big blanket he had covering him. This guy knew all the good spots to pet me, and I purred and made happy paws during most of our visit. He was so good that my human asked if he had any cats. Surprisingly, he said no, but when he visited his grandmother as a child, she did, and that’s where he learned how to pet cats.

He was actually one of the very few patients I got to see today — I wound up spending most of my time with nurses and other staff members. There was a special request for one patient in Labor and Delivery, but she had been moved up a floor. Before going, of course, I had to say hi to everyone at the nurses station.

When we went up to the fourth floor, we found the staff, but still no patients. And they were also really overjoyed to see me. I made happy paws on the table while they petted me. Since we hadn’t been to that floor before, we needed help finding the regular elevator. So a nurse whose ID clip said, “My blood type is coffee” helped us out.

We had another special request for a patient in the same tower as Behavioral Medicine, so we stopped there first. It turned out that the patient wasn’t there anymore…but the staff basically made the request because they wanted to see me! So I had more fun seeing staff. One nurse who was 62 had never been around a cat before…and she was enchanted by me.

Finally we went up to Behavioral Medicine, where I had just one patient to visit, and she was really nice! She petted me for nearly the whole 30 minutes I was there. She was definitely a cat person.

My job as a therapy cat is to bring happiness…and this visit made me pretty happy too!
