Michelle Wie West comes out of retirement to join WTGL
Michelle Wie West is returning to competitive golf.
Wie West will join WTGL, a new team-based women’s golf platform created in partnership with the LPGA set to launch next winter, TMRW Sports announced Monday.
The former major champion retired from professional golf in 2023.
Wie West, a five-time LPGA Tour winner, captured her lone major at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open at Pinehurst No. 2 and was a fixture on the United States Solheim Cup team across five editions.
“As an investor in Los Angeles Golf Club and a fan of TGL, I’m excited for the chance to compete again through WTGL, which will be a powerful platform for women’s golf,” Wie West said in a statement.
“I’m passionate about growing the game, and TGL has proved how new formats through the lens of innovation and creativity can bring golf to a broader audience. The team aspect, matched with the unique environment at SoFi Center, is something I want to be part of and it’s going to be incredibly fun to challenge myself, this time alongside teammates, to compete against the best in the world.”
Wie West adds star power to an eight-player roster that has combined for 66 LPGA Tour victories and seven major championships.
The committed group includes world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul, Charley Hull, three-time major champion Lydia Ko, Lottie Woad, Rose Zhang and Lexi Thompson.
Canada’s Brooke Henderson, ranked No. 18 in the world, has also signed up to play.
WTGL is backed by Alex Morgan’s Trybe Ventures as lead capital partner and is TMRW Sports’ second project. One team ownership group has been confirmed: Arthur M. Blank and AMB Sports and Entertainment.
