Adolescence creator urges government to tackle manosphere after Netflix documentary

Adolescence creator Jack Thorne has said that the government could be doing more to “solve the manosphere problem”.

Speaking to The Independent at the Broadcasting Press Guild Awards on Wednesday (18 March), Thorne heaped praise on Louis Theroux’s “brilliant” documentary Inside The Manosphere, which he said reignited important conversations on the controversial topic.

“It’s a complicated issue to combat, but it doesn’t feel like the government is necessarily leaning into some of the complicated ways they might solve the problem.”

Thorne’s own show, the 2025 hit Adolescence, explores themes of toxic masculinity, misogyny, and incel culture.

Theroux’s documentary lifted the lid on the “manosphere” – an online ecosystem that repackages misogyny, anti-feminism, and male grievance as self-improvement and hustle.
