Man Utd youngster Ethan Ennis is excelling on loan at Fleetwood and notched a brace on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester United loanee Ethan Ennis scored a brace for Fleetwood against Luton Town in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday. Ennis’ second goal was a trivela shot, and a clip of the goal has gone viral on social media.
Ennis opened the scoring in the 64th minute of the game with a strike at the back post, but Luton equalised shortly afterwards. Ennis then popped up with eight minutes remaining to score a trivela goal, striking the ball with the outside of his foot to find the top left corner from the right side of the box.
United academy graduate Teden Mengi scored for Luton in added time to make it 2-2, but Fleetwood won the penalty shootout to secure their spot in the next round of the FA Cup. Ennis converted his penalty to seal a performance worthy of the man of the match award.
Speaking to the BBC, Fleetwood manager Pete Wild discussed Ennis’ performance and praised the youngster for scoring two important goals against third-division Luton.
He said: “I don’t want to single anyone out because everybody was fantastic, but Ethan scored two fantastic goals. He continues to learn and improve. What a solid young man and a bloke who will have a top career. And hopefully we are a part of that in his journey. Some unbelievable performances.”
Ennis recently sat down with Fleetwood’s media team and said: “I want to keep learning, keep contributing, and help the team as much as I can. Every loan, every experience is part of your journey, you take something from all of it.”
The winger spent the last six months of last term on loan with Doncaster Rovers as they secured promotion from League Two. “It taught me a lot,” he said, discussing that stint.
“Going from under-21 football to the men’s game is a big step, but Doncaster was brilliant. The intensity, the competitiveness, the pressure, it all helped me grow.”
Ennis began his career with Liverpool, but he was signed by United in the summer of 2021 and he was the standout signing for the academy in an otherwise quiet window.
The youngster signed his first professional contract immediately after celebrating his 17th birthday and only the most highly regarded academy talents are given pro deals so quickly.
The Cheshire-born youngster scored 10 goals in 19 appearances for United’s Under-18s in 2021/22, his first full season at the club, and his finishing ability is one of his finest qualities.
