Elliot Anderson discusses future as Man United learn Sandro Tonali stance
Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali are reportedly targets for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window
Manchester United have been given an opportunity to reflect during the international break. With many of Michael Carrick’s players away representing their countries, attention has shifted towards the club’s summer transfer window strategy.
The side’s impressive recent form has placed United in a strong position to secure Champions League qualification, sitting six points clear of Liverpool in fifth place. Their resurgence under Carrick and potential return to Europe’s premier competition make the club an increasingly appealing prospect for players.
Midfield represents an area United will be keen to address in the transfer market, with Casemiro poised to depart in the summer. Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Elliot Anderson is among those who have been linked as a possible replacement at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali is another of the club’s rumoured midfield targets. Here, MEN Sport examines some of the stories surrounding Carrick’s squad.
Elliot Anderson addresses future
Anderson has addressed a question about his future at Forest while on England duty. The 23-year-old has established himself as an important figure in the Three Lions setup under Thomas Tuchel and has discussed whether the transfer speculation has proved a distraction as he seeks to solidify his position in the team.
“We’ve obviously got the World Cup this summer, so all my eyes are on that and playing for England,” Anderson said. “I’ve obviously got the badge on now, so that’s what I’m thinking about at the moment.”
Previous reports have suggested that Forest will command a huge fee for Anderson, who has also attracted interest from Manchester City. He has received widespread praise for his displays this season, despite Forest battling against Premier League relegation.
Anderson’s immediate attention will be on representing England in their forthcoming fixture against Japan on Tuesday. He was absent from the squad that secured a 1-1 draw with Uruguay last week as Tuchel experimented with his selection.
After watching Jordan Henderson and James Garner feature in his position, Anderson said: “We’re all sort of competing with each other but we’re all really good mates within the group, so there’s definitely a great balance, the competitiveness is definitely there and we’re really enjoying it.”
Sandro Tonali stance
Newcastle United are reportedly relaxed about retaining Sandro Tonali. The Italy midfielder has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
ChronicleLive has stated that Newcastle remain calm about Tonali’s future. The 25-year-old is tied down until 2029, with the possibility of an additional year.
However, Newcastle are reportedly frustrated with the player’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, who has openly spoken about his client potentially leaving St James’ Park. When previously speaking to Italian media about Tonali, he said: “If he shines at the World Cup, will City or Arsenal be hot on his heels?
“I don’t know, but it’s very likely. Everyone is waiting for the World Cup; then a thousand scenarios will unfold, but it all kicks off after the World Cup.”
