A man has been charged with bestiality after an incident on a farm in Vernon, B.C., in January.

Seth Justin Christian, born in 1991, had his first court appearance scheduled on Thursday.

The incident happened on Erica Van Meenen’s farm, Abigail Equestrian, on Jan. 24.

Van Meenen says in the early morning she got notifications from her security camera, and saw a man in the video footage.

She called police, who were unable to find the suspect that night.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said at the time that they reviewed security footage that “revealed a criminal offence had occurred within an enclosed animal pen on the property.”

“It was just the most disturbing thing I never would have even thought that I would see or witness,” Van Meenen told CBC’s Radio West.

“This is something that’s never crossed my mind, not once in my life. So, it actually made me physically nauseous numerous times.”

She posted clips from the footage to social media and received many responses from users who said they recognized the man. She forwarded the responses to police.

Van Meenen said she suspects her horses will be OK physically and mentally, but the incident has had major effects on her and her clients.

Christian’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 30.
