Next weekend, Derek Chisora will step through the ropes for what he says is the final time when he takes on Deontay Wilder. Looking ahead to the contest, John Fury – whose son Tyson has faced both three times – has made a strong prediction.

Chisora has fought on 49 occasions and has vowed to retire after fight number 50, even if successful against former long-reigning WBC heavyweight ruler Wilder, who reaches the same landmark when they collide next Saturday.

For Wilder, this clash with ‘Del Boy’ is undeniably last chance saloon, but a potentially fruitful chance at that, given Chisora’s favourable ranking with the sanctioning bodies following an impressive run of three straight victories.

That form sees Chisora enter the bout as the favourite, whilst Wilder has won just twice since 2019, losing in four of his last six fights and notably looking a shadow of his former self in defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

Should ‘The Bronze Bomber’ pull off the upset, he is expected to rise the rankings and find himself back in contention for the heavyweight throne, but defeat to the 43-year-old veteran may well convince the American to retire.

Speaking to Playbook Boxing, John Fury, father of Tyson Fury, confidently forecasted a dominant win for Chisora, believing Wilder to be well past his best.

“Wilder can’t walk. I’ll have a little bet now, 10 grand that old Chisora will walk straight through Wilder with his hands high, it will be over.”

Wilder-Chisora takes place on Saturday, April 4, at the O2 Arena in London, as ‘Del Boy’ plans to walk away from the sport on a high and put an end to Wilder’s hopes of becoming a two-time world champion.
