John Daly II chips in during strong PGA Tour debut at Puerto Rico Open

The next generation has arrived on the PGA Tour.

John Daly II made his Tour debut on Thursday, shooting a 2-under 70 at the Puerto Rico Open on a sponsor’s exemption.

Daly II’s round was highlighted by a chip-in birdie on the 16th hole.

The 22-year-old is competing in the event as an amateur while playing college golf at Arkansas.

After the round, Daly II gave an interview that was reminiscent of his father, whose decorated career included two major championships and five PGA Tour wins.

Daly II was asked about his post-round plans.

“I would say I’d go hit balls, but I’m a little tired so I’m probably just going to go to the beach and probably do absolutely nothing for the rest of the day,” he said.

The early leader in the tournament was Chandler Blanchet at 8-under 64.

Daly II’s strong start has him in the mix to make the cut.
