Jen Shah asks for ‘grace’ and apologizes to fraud victims in new post-jail interview

Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah has apologized to her wire fraud victims in her interview since leaving prison.

Shah, 52, was released in December from Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, after serving less than three years of her six-and-a-half-year sentence. The reality star was arrested in March 2021 for her role in a nationwide telemarketing fraud that targeted elderly people. After initially denying her involvement, Shah pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in July 2022.

Now, in her first interview since her release, Shah has apologized to her victims while asking for grace.

“I was wrong,” admitted to People. “I made wrong decisions. I should have done things differently. I should have been more diligent. And I’m deeply remorseful and sorry for my actions and for my part. I take full responsibility.

“I understand that people have their opinions based on what they saw,” she continued. “But I would hope they would give me the grace to at least hear me and understand that I’m more than just the headline.”

Shah’s arrest was captured as cameras were rolling on season two of the hit Bravo franchise. Viewers saw as SWAT teams swarmed around a sprinter van carrying Shah’s castmates, and later descended upon the reality star’s home. She and one of her assistants, Stuart Smith, were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The indictment alleged that Shah and Smith carried out a nationwide telemarketing scheme with others’ help between 2012 and 2021. Prosecutors said Shah and others had sold “business services,” including website design services, to elderly victims who did not even own a computer.

Shah and others also sold the names of individuals that they knew would be defrauded by other participants in the scheme. Shah used profits from the scheme to fund the luxurious lifestyle that viewers saw her portray on the show.

But Shah has claimed to People that she thought she “was doing the right thing for the majority of the time.”

“What happened was down the line, people that I worked with were working with a lot of other people,” she told the publication. “Once that initial fulfillment was happening, things were happening beyond the point of sale with that customer that I didn’t know about.

“I trusted the wrong people at a very vulnerable time in my life.”

While her prison days may be behind her, Shah likely won’t be returning to the show, which is reportedly in production on season seven.

Bravo executive producer Andy Cohen said in September 2025 that there is no chance that the disgraced entrepreneur will return to the show after her conviction, according to a video taken behind the scenes of his talk show, Watch What Happens Live.

“Jen Shah, I never want to see again,” Cohen, 57, told the audience during a Q&A at WWHL. Shah last appeared on the show during season three in 2023.
