Trump’s approval rating falls to record low following surging fuel prices and war with Iran, poll shows

The Independent’s Katie Hawkinson reports:

The president’s overall approval rating is now at 36 percent, marking its lowest point since he took office last year, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday.

The president’s economic approval rating also appears to be falling as Americans face soaring gas prices amid the war. About 25 percent of respondents approve of the way Trump is handling the cost of living in the U.S., the poll found.

“All because Trump started war with no plan and no idea how it would affect everyday Americans,” Kelly wrote on X. “I’m fighting to suspend the federal gas tax to bring families some relief, but what they really need is a president focused on lowering their costs.”

China’s foreign minister urges early peace talks in call with Iranian counterpart

Chinese foreign minister Wang called on Tuesday on parties to seize all opportunities to start peace talks as soon as possible in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Aragchi, according to a statement from Wang’s ministry.

Talking is always better than fighting, Wang told Aragchi, adding that “all hotspot issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation, not by using force”.

According to Iranian state media on Wednesday, Araqchi had responded by saying: “Iran’s serious expectation from the member states of the Security Council, especially China and Russia, is to prevent the US from continuing to abuse the council by taking a firm stance in condemning the aggression of the US and the Zionist regime (Israel)”.
