Victims of human trafficking will now have a new, more “discreet” way of reporting to police.

Hamilton Police Service launched a new human trafficking reporting tool which aims to “enhance victim safety and accessibility.”

Police spokesperson Trevor McKenna said the tool launched on Monday to coincide with Human Trafficking Awareness Day, which was on Sunday. It is set to provide an alternative way for people who “may not feel safe or able to attend a police station in person.”

“Our goal is to create a safe and discreet outlet for survivors of human trafficking to access at their leisure,” said McKenna.

Police said in a news release victims of human trafficking face many barriers to seeking help and are hoping this tool will offer another way to do so.

The tool will allow police to initiate an investigation and connect victims with resources while ensuring victims are supported.
