Nearly 10,000 participants will take to the streets Sunday for the 132nd running of the Around the Bay Road Race, organizers say.
It’s the first time that North America’s oldest road race is being held on April 12.
Earlier this year organizers announced they were breaking with a decades-old tradition of the race taking place the last Sunday in March. They also announced at the time that the routes will also be different and closer to Hamilton’s harbourfront.
This year’s race welcomes new start and finish line locations near Hamilton Harbour and the waterfront, according to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
A news release from the hospital says more than 170 health-care workers from St. Joe’s are taking part in the Bay Race, “raising funds for the hospital where they’re proud to work, too.”
Start/finish lines locations and times
- The 30-km race will start at 9 :30 a.m. at Leander Drive in front of Pier 4.
- The 15-km race will begin at 9: 10 a.m. north of Lift Bridge on Eastport Drive.
- The 10-km racers will line up 400m west of LaSalle Park at 9:20 a.m.
- The five-km race will start on Guise Street near Pier 8 with a start time of 9:40 a.m.
The finish line for all four races will be at Discovery Drive.

According to the news release, this is the 22nd year that St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation has been the official charity partner of the Bay Race, with participants raising funds in support of much-needed health-care equipment at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
