One person is dead and another injured following a three-vehicle crash in Hamilton, police say.
In a post on social media, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles were involved in the collision. He said one car caught fire.
“It happened around 5:30 [a.m.],” he said. “It was dark and still foggy, a bit misty at the time.”
Another person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
Schmidt said police are looking into road and driver conditions at the time of the crash.
Highway 8 is closed both ways between Orkney Road and Highway 52 near Rockton. Schmidt said he expects the closures will remain in place for “most of the morning.”
In a social media post earlier in the morning, Hamilton police asked motorists to avoid the area.
