Families gathered at the historical McDougall Cottage in Cambridge on Sunday for the Spring Fling event.

The cottage hosted the weekend-long event, which included seasonal crafts, a carrot toss game, bunny bowling and a scavenger hunt with a treat at the end.

Seven-year-old Advik Bhatia came out to the event ready for the scavenger hunt.

“I’m most excited to find everything and get the prize at the end,” he said.

Bhatia added that he is happy spring is back and is ready to get outside.

“I don’t like wearing a lot of winter gear,” he said. “I like to play soccer and a I like to play all different sports.” he said.

Gloria Ichim brought her 7-year old daughter Raiahanna to the event.

“She’s having a great time. She got to do a lot of crafts and bowling outside in this scavenger hunt. It’s really good for her to meet people and socialize,” she said.

Ichim says the event is a great opportunity to bring the community closer together.

“It helps people to connect during holiday times in a very isolated society,” she said.

McDougall Cottage is a 1858 granite and limestone building located on the banks of the Grand River.

It was initially home to two families, the McDougalls and the Bairds. Today, it’s an interpretation centre that focuses on Cambridge’s Scottish heritage.

The Spring Fling is one of multiple holiday events held at the cottage every year.
