Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora will go head-to-head in the ring on Saturday night

Derek Chisora will take on Deontay Wilder on Saturday night, but there is a disagreement amongst the sport’s biggest names over who will win. For Chisora, a victory could be a fitting final fight.

The Brit has claimed it will be his 50th and final appearance as a professional boxer. However, the outspoken Wilder, should he win, could use it as a stepping stone to a mega clash against unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Chisora is on a run of three victories, having seen off Gerald Washington, Joe Joyce and Otto Wallin. American star Wilder has lost two of his last three bouts, including a defeat by Zhilei Zhang.

With the O2 Arena set to host the match-up, MEN Sport takes a look at six predictions for the huge fight from some of Boxing’s all-time greats.

David Price – Chisora

Former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Price believes the Brit has the advantage. He said: “Chisora is facing, probably still one of the most dangerous punchers on the planet, in what could be his last fight. Common sense would say take a softer touch to go out on, but that’s Derek Chisora all over.

“He obviously wants the money that comes with the Wilder fight, and he’ll be getting paid what he deserves and going out with a bang. I think Wilder, as good as he’s been, has lost that aura now. I think Derek can win the fight late on — just outwork him, outlast him.”

Lennox Lewis – Wilder

Boxing icon Lewis is backing Wilder due to the star’s reach. He told Fight Hype: “You’ve got two heavyweights in there, whichever one catches the other first goes because they’re both good punchers. I favour the guy with the longer arms. [Deontay] has the edge because he has the longer arms.”

Carl Froch – Chisora

Former super-middleweight star Froch can’t see past a Chisora win, largely because of the 42-year-old’s never-say-die spirit. He also claimed Wilder is “finished” at a professional level.

“I make [Chisora] a slight favourite because you’ve always got the work rate; you’ve always got that drive and that refusal to quit,” he said.

“When you get on his chest and start pushing him back after round four, five and six, he’s [Wilder] going to be looking at the exit door, thinking, ‘I want to go home.'”

He added: “Worst-case scenario, Chisora wins it on points. I can also see how he stops Wilder. Just based on, I’ve seen Wilder against Zhang, and against [Joseph] Parker, he looks finished. Looks like he’s a spent force.”

Malik Scott – Wilder

Wilder’s former coach, and ex-pro, Scott thinks the American will have too much for the British star. He said: “It can be for anybody who fights Chisora. The fight is black and white. Can Deontay knock him out?

“That’s what we’re going to see. If he can’t knock him out, Chisora’s going to be all over him, like white on rice. I think Deontay Wilder wins by knockout early. But Chisora is gonna let us know if there’s anything left.”

Oleksandr Usyk – Chisora

The three-time undisputed champion beat Chisora in October 2020 and has been rumoured to be eyeing a bout against Wilder in the near future.

However, he has backed the Brit to overcome his rival. “I support Chisora. I think Chisora wins,” the Ukrainian legend said in his classic, understated fashion.

Tyson Fury – Chisora

Boxing icon Fury, like his long-standing foe Usyk, believes Chisora will exit the ring as the winner. Fury beat the Brit in a trilogy of fights between 2011 and 2022. He has also fought Wilder three times, winning two and drawing one between 2018 and 2021.

“I fancy Derek,” he said. “I know Wilder is finished. He should have retired in 2021 in his last defeat [against me]. Well, he didn’t, and he’s paying the price for small amounts of money. Which he didn’t really [need], but whatever.”
