A 33-year-old man is wanted after a woman was violently assaulted and forcibly confined for hours at a home in a First Nation in northern Manitoba on Sunday, police say.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday, RCMP learned that a woman had been assaulted by a man throughout the previous night in Chemawawin Cree Nation, about 400 kilometres north of Winnipeg, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
The man, who knew the victim, punched and kicked her, and also struck her with various weapons, RCMP say.
She eventually escaped and called RCMP. She was taken to hospital to be treated for multiple non-life-threatening injuries.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Darren Lachose, 33, on charges of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, forcible confinement, two counts of uttering threats and mischief under $5,000, as well as two counts of breaching conditions of his release.
Lachose is not believed to be a risk to public safety, police say.
RCMP are asking anyone who has seen him, or has information on his whereabouts, to contact them at 204-329-2004, or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or online.
