Canada’s Conners fires 67, moves into top five at The Players Championship
Corey Conners is onto the weekend at TPC Sawgrass in style.
The Listowel, Ont., native fired a round of 5-under 67 on Friday, good for a tie for third when he went into the clubhouse at The Players Championship.
Conners came out the gate flying, with birdies on the first four holes and on five of the first six — a continuation of his strong, bogey-free back nine in the opening round.
The highlight of his day came on the ninth fairway, when the righty holed out from 102 yards for eagle to jump into the lead.
Conners is a two-time PGA Tour champion, winning the Valero Texas Open in 2019 and in 2023. The 34-year-old already has one top-25 finish this season, and is now poised to make his fifth cut in six events.
American Xander Schauffele fired the low round of the day as of 3 p.m. ET, shooting a 7-under 65 to lead the tournament at 10-under.
