Calgary police said a pedestrian was killed late Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle on Stoney Trail in the city’s northeast.

Investigators said the crash happened just before 11 p.m. in the southbound lanes, near McKnight Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they shut down the southbound lanes between McKnight and 16 Avenue northeast and advised motorists to avoid the area.

The man who was struck died from his injuries.

Investigators said the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

The road was closed to traffic for about six hours while the CPS collision reconstruction team investigated.


Calgary police were seen towing a vehicle away from the scene of the fatal crash.

It was reopened to traffic around 6 a.m., just in time for the start of the Wednesday morning rush hour.
