Brick wall in Westmount partially collapses onto vehicles, injuring man

Bricks fell from a residential building in Westmount on Tuesday afternoon, striking two parked vehicles and injuring a man in one of them.
The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Victoria Ave. near Sherbrooke St. W., according to Montreal police, when part of the building’s exterior cladding gave way, sending bricks crashing down.
The bricks collapsed the roof of one car and smashed its windshield and hood. The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
The other parked vehicle was also damaged by the bricks.

About two dozen firefighters and other emergency workers responded to the incident, inspecting the building and securing the area.
The cause of the collapse is not known. There was no indication of a criminal element, police said.
The structure itself now appears stable, though crews continued to assess the site to ensure that no additional material could fall.
