Mohun Bagan Super Giant continued its winning run in the Indian Super League with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Monday. Australian striker Jamie Maclaren opened the scoring late in the first half, while compatriot Dimitri Petratos sealed the win midway through the second period.
Mohun Bagan gradually built up momentum, focusing much of its attacking play through the flanks, with Liston Colaco and Brazilian Robson Robinho delivering repeated crosses into the Chennaiyin box. Despite sustained pressure, the visitors’ defence held firm and denied any clear chances to Petratos and Maclaren.
The breakthrough came when Anirudh Thapa delivered a precise through-pass that split the CFC defence and found Maclaren, who calmly slotted the ball past substitute goalkeeper Samik Mitra. Chennaiyin had earlier been forced into a change after first-choice ’keeper Mohammad Nawaz was injured in a goalmouth collision around the half-hour mark.
After the restart, the home team pressed for a second goal to secure the contest. The insurance strike arrived in the 65th minute. Left-back Subhasish Bose whipped in a pinpoint cross to the far post, where Petratos met it with a powerful volley. Although Mitra managed to get a hand to the ball, he could not prevent it from bulging the net.
The result marked Mohun Bagan’s second consecutive win of the campaign, which took its tally to six points from two outings. Chennaiyin suffered its second successive loss.
The result: Mohun Bagan Super Giant 2 (Jamie Maclaren 45+3, Dimitri Petratos 65) bt Chennaiyin FC 0.
