Alycia Baumgardner to defend unified super-featherweight titles against Bo Mi Re Shin over 10 three-minute rounds

Alycia Baumgardner will fight top contender Bo Mi Re Shin over 10 three-minute rounds, the same round length as in men’s boxing, in New York City on April 17.

The contest will take place at Infosys Theater at Madison Square Garden with the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world titles at 130lbs on the line.

On the undercard, in an event staged by Most Valuable Promotions, unified super-middleweight champion Shadasia Green, who defeated Savannah Marshall last time out, defends her WBO and IBF titles against Lani Daniels, the former heavyweight titlist who lost to Claressa Shields.

Baumgardner, who defeated Edith Matthysse and Mikaela Mayer to add the WBO and IBF belts to her collection, became the undisputed champion in 2023 when she defeated Elhem Mekhaled for the WBA title.

Baumgardner said: “New York sets the tone for boxing’s biggest nights. Becoming undisputed there was monumental, and the fans have embraced me from the beginning.

“Every fight for me is about elevation; I’m here to dominate and continue building something that lasts beyond belts.”

South Korea’s Bo Mi Re Shin challenged Caroline Dubois for the WBC lightweight world title at the Royal Albert Hall last year.

She said: “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to showcase my talents on such a big occasion in New York City.

“This is the sort of dream fight that you always imagine. MSG, all those belts, a fierce competitor in Alycia Baumgardner. I’m going to make sure that I turn this opportunity into the most defining night of my life.

“I have every confidence that I will become the unified world champion. We’ve worked hard to get opportunities throughout my career, and now has come the time where I’ve jumped to a chance to capture multiple titles in one night. I won’t be denied. This is my time.”

Han sets Holm rematch

On May 30 in El Paso, Texas, WBA lightweight world champion Stephanie Han will rematch Holly Holm the former UFC star as the pair return to settle the score following an accidental clash of heads that resulted in a technical decision during their first meeting in January.

“Last time the fight ended early because of the cut,” Han said. “I got the win, but not the closure. This time in my city, there will be no excuses, no what ifs, and no doubt who the better fighter is. I can’t wait to showcase my abilities.”

Holm said: “The rematch with Han is coming, and I’m ready for it.

“She’s a disciplined, tough champion, and I respect that. I’ll be putting in the work and I will be ready.”
