Alabama basketball star Aden Holloway arrested on drug charge

One of the top Canadian connections in this year’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament is facing legal trouble.

Alabama’s Aden Holloway, who played for Canada at GLOBL JAM last summer, was arrested for first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp, Tuscaloosa Police confirmed to Sportsnet on Monday.

Police recovered more than a pound of marijuana, paraphernalia and cash at a residence, a police spokesperson said. Holloway was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Monday morning and bond was set at $5,000.

The six-foot-one Holloway, in his second season at Alabama after transferring from Auburn, is second on the Crimson Tide in scoring this season, averaging 16.8 points per game.

The Crimson Tide are seeded fourth in the Midwest Region and scheduled to face No. 13 Hofstra in the opening round on Friday in Tampa, Fla.

Holloway is eligible to play for Canada by virtue of his Canadian-born mother, who is the daughter of Canadian Football Hall of Famer Dave Raimey.
