Seeking to end their three-game barren run and resume their push for a promotion playoff spot, Hull City return to the MKM Stadium on Saturday for the visit of Birmingham City in the 43rd round of the 2025-26 EFL Championship campaign. Despite their recent setbacks, the hosts remain alive in the race for playoff football, while the visitors’ momentum at the start of the year has stalled significantly, leaving them effectively with only the prospect of a top-half finish.

After marking their return from the international break with consecutive draws against Oxford United and Coventry City, Hull looked poised to reverse their fortunes when they made the trip to Bramall Lane last weekend to face Sheffield United and took the lead inside five minutes.

However, a red card to former Blade John Lundstram in the second half changed the complexion of the game, as the Tigers conceded in quick succession in the closing five minutes to lose 2-1.

With closest competitors Wrexham and Derby County also suffering defeats, Hull remain four points clear in sixth place, but head coach Sergej Jakirovic will be keen to see his side return to winning ways on Saturday to strengthen their chances of securing a playoff spot in the coming weeks.

Birmingham City’s 2-1 victory over Norwich City in late February saw them move within two points of the promotion playoff spots. However, the Blues rapidly ran out of steam and have dropped to 15th place, although they are just one point away from confirming survival.

Chris Davies’ men head into Saturday’s encounter in high spirits, having snapped their three-game losing streak with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 victory over Wrexham on Sunday.
