One cold morning in January 2023 in Michigan, I opened the door to feed our outside kitty. The usual cat was there, but this petite orange-and-white kitty suddenly bolted inside. I picked her up and said, “You can eat outside.”

The next morning, I looked before opening the door and didn’t see her. But once again, she bolted inside. This time, when I picked her up, I realized she had been declawed. Oh, little one, you’re not going back out there.
We did the usual things — posted flyers around the neighborhood, listed her on lost animal websites, and shared her information on Facebook. Then someone reminded me to check whether she was microchipped.
I took her to the nearest vet, and yes, she had a chip. But there was a problem: the contact listed was not the current owner. After a few hours, the current owner finally called.

As we talked about the situation, she mentioned Mission Road. I asked, “Where are you?” She said, “Traverse City.”
I was stunned. I live in Lansing, a 2.5-hour drive away.
We still don’t know what route Daisy took, but somehow, she found me. Thank goodness.
It was incredible trying to guess how she had gotten to my house. She was clean and in very good condition. She must have hitched a ride somehow.
Although we may never know Daisy’s true journey, her story is a reminder to always keep your microchip information up to date.
