It’s been a rainy week in and around Hamilton, and with more showers on the way, Environment Canada says water could pool on roads and in low-lying areas.

Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford and Niagara Region are among the southwestern Ontario municipalities the federal weather agency is warning with a special weather statement it published Thursday morning.

In Halton and Waterdown, there could be around 20 mm of rain coming today, Environment Canada said. In the rest of Hamilton and across Niagara, there could be 10 to 20 mm.

“The ground, already near saturation, has a limited capacity to absorb this rainfall,” Environment Canada said.

No flood warning from conservation authorities

It added there could be rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, but rainfall amounts “will likely be highly variable across the region.”

People should avoid low-lying areas and not drive through flooded roads, the agency said.

Neither the Hamilton Conservation Authority nor the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority are warning of flooding in their watersheds.
