Conor Benn in advanced talks with next opponent for Las Vegas fight | Boxing News

Conor Benn scored a victory over Regis Prograis this past weekend and he is now closing in on the title shot he has long called for.

‘The Destroyer’ was made to work for his win over Prograis, going the full 10 rounds with the two-time super-lightweight world champion in the co-main event of the Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov undercard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Though Benn could not secure his first stoppage win since 2022, he won comfortably on the cards against a tough Prograis, who announced his retirement post-fight. The catchweight clash was one step on the Brit’s journey back to the welterweight division, where he is the WBC’s number one contender, and he called out champion Ryan Garcia post-fight.

In response, Garcia took to social media to accept the challenge and, in the days since, it seems as though talks have progressed well, with Boxing Scene reporting that the pair are ‘far along in negotiations.’

Meanwhile, on a Kick Stream. Garcia verified those reports, going as far as revealing when and where he will attempt a first defence of his belt against the polarising Essex-born operator.

“It’s going to be in August. We’re gonna have it in [Las] Vegas. His [my opponent’s] name is Conor Benn, he is from the United Kingdom.

“We are going to eat that up, for sure. Conor is about to get blasted, guys.”

The fight will most likely top a Ring card and could land on either Netflix or DAZN. However, it must be noted that Garcia has named a number of different opponents in recent weeks, and there is no indication that the fight is over the line just yet.
