Drinking water at two more N.W.T. schools have shown elevated levels of lead, the territorial government says.

Some water fixtures at both Echo Dene School in Fort Liard and Inualthuyak School in Sachs Harbour have lead levels above the maximum acceptable levels under Canadian standards.

All affected water fixtures and fountains in both schools will be out of service, and an alternative source of water will be provided, the government said in a news release Monday.

The release also said water had been tested at K’alemi Dene School in Ndılǫ, Charles Yohin School in Nahanni Butte and Mangilaluk School in Tuktoyaktuk is complete and all drinking water fixtures show lead levels below the maximum levels.

In October, the territory launched a new lead testing protocol for drinking water at schools. That was prompted by earlier testing in 2025 that found elevated lead levels in water at three Yellowknife schools.
